As our son was memorizing scripture for youth group, he recited a common phrase Apostle Paul wrote to churches: “We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers.” (1 Thess 1:2 ESV). We do pause and thank God for all of you! This has been a memorable year and we feel blessed to have you all in our lives. The moments of loud laughter, eating delicious meals, and powerful prayers have filled our hearts. Last Sunday, our home church held a special re-commissioning service to cover us in prayer and send us off with words of affirmation. It was an overwhelming show of support and we were glad to see some family and friends that travelled from far distances to attend.
In the past year, we have connected with over 30 churches across Canada. We are thankful for the partnerships (Seamless Link Agreement) that have been established with Gateway Church and Scarborough Community Alliance which includes reciprocal prayer and communication support, reciprocal visits if possible and financial support to help IWs and churches stay connected. We hope that in our sharing times, we have created some ripples and that others will be spurred to answer God’s call to be on mission, everyone, everywhere, all the time.
So what’s next? We are flying back to Cambodia in early July, and we will be moving to the capital city of Phnom Penh for this next term (5 hours away from Siem Reap). When we arrive, we will need to spend time praying and discerning with our team next steps in our ministry work. We have a passion to develop more programs that encompass discipleship and leadership training for both the Vietnamese and Cambodians. We hope to expand a financial counselling program to help families inside and outside of the church that are victims of predatory debt. We also need wisdom in planning how to support the work in Siem Reap from afar.
The next couple of weeks will be emotional and stressful as we try to fit our lives into a few bags and say goodbye to Canada for another term. It’s a challenge…the kids need to choose between their favourite Nerf guns and princess dresses. But we are excited to return to Cambodia and join in the work that Jesus is already doing, to bring people into His loving presence.
- Pray for our transition, may we grieve well and be filled with God’s peace and presence
- Pray for God to provide a good home for us, we will need to find a place to rent in Phnom Penh
- Discernment of how to support the leaders in Siem Reap and what new ministry projects to engage with in Phnom Penh
