Preparing to Leave Phnom Penh

Preparing to Leave Phnom Penh

It has been a busy month of studying, packing and getting our truck repaired before our moving trip. Our truck needed some more extensive repairs; it was at the shop all week and we hope all the major issues have been taken care of. Carol and Kevin studied one more language level and passed their level 6 assessment. Marcus finished grade 2 earlier this month and was able to attend a very fun safari themed VBS program at an international church. Mackenzie just had her last day at preschool on Friday.

The kids were sad to say goodbye to their classmates and teachers. Moving again is bringing back memories of leaving Canada and we’ve had some tough conversations with the kids as they feel some regret in leaving home. They are nervous about moving to a new house and making new friends at a new school. Kevin and Carol are excited yet also overwhelmed as they review ministry vision and strategies for their role in Siem Reap with the Vietnamese ministry.

After our move, we will also be attending Field Forum from July 3-8 with all C&MA US and Canada workers based in Cambodia in Siem Reap. Every year the C&MA workers gather in order to worship, pray, encourage and conduct annual business meetings. We look forward to this time of connection with our fellow workers in Christ.

When I reflect on this past year and future plans, it can seem foolish to the secular world for us to pack up our lives and move to serve in a developing nation. But I feel affirmed and encouraged when I am reminded of the cross and I read passages like I Corinthians 1:

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God…It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God – that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.”

  • Praise God all four of us had a great school year, met new friends and had wonderful teachers. It will be hard to say good-bye.
  • Please pray for safety for the Lim & Nguyen family on July 1st as we drive about 5-6 hour to Siem Reap (roads are not all paved and can be very dangerous)
  • Please pray for our ministry team to receive wisdom and discernment as we will begin working at the Vietnamese ministry.
Kids got to choose a special dessert for finishing the school year. Mackenzie loves anything strawberry and
Marcus loves Bingsu (Korean shaved ice).
