God’s Provision

God’s Provision

Last week we took a short 5 day trip to Siem Reap to search for a rental house. It wasn’t easy looking for a rental because most properties are not listed with real estate agents or available online to see. We looked at dozens of listings online beforehand but some turned out to be rented already. We met with 3 real estate companies, and drove around neighbourhoods searching for “House For Rent” signs. After viewing almost 10 houses and not finding the ideal home, we started to get nervous near the end of our trip. But God was faithful and through a series of chance encounters, we are very thankful that we were able to secure a very beautiful rental house at a good price. It’s located between the kids’ school and the ministry centre.

In the yard of the house, there is a large golden spirit house that was custom ordered by the landlord. Rooted in Buddhist beliefs, Cambodians often place spirit houses on their property to appease the spirits and in hopes of the spirits protecting the house from thieves. While we were signing the rental contract, we asked the landlord to remove the spirit house before our move-in date. The landlord protested and started to explain the reason why she had this expensive spirit house custom built for her rental property. Thankfully, we had our team lead, Ilana, with us who helped to explain in Khmer that we were Christians and we believe that Jesus Christ is the most powerful being and He will protect us. It goes against our faith to have the spirit house on our property. In the end the landlord agreed to our terms. The whole story is long and we would be happy to share more details with any of you personally. We are thankful for God’s provision of a place to rest and recharge. Please pray for us as we prepare to move on July 1st.
